Wedding Photography – Francesca and Derek

I had the pleasure of photographing Francesca and Derek’s wedding in an unusually sunny Helensburgh, with the ceremony itself being in the nearby Naval Base as groom Derek is a serving Royal Marine. We had the use of Francesca’s friend’s house to do the pre-wedding shots with her Mum and bridesmaids, the perfect venue to show off the bride and the dress (from Kirsty at Your Wedding Consultant). From there it was on to the Church at the Naval Base for the ceremony, before returning to Helensburgh’s Hermitage Park for the group pictures. Once the groups were done we had some quiet time for me to take photographs of just Francesca and Derek, before they headed off to meet the rest of the party for the reception.

How do you value photography?

Below is a link to a blog post by another photographer, Jeanine Thurston. It contains the transcript of a letter sent to her by a client, and as it turns out makes for quite an emotional read. It also draws some comparisons to my own situation. After my Mother and then my Father passed away I had the unenviable task of clearing the house, and it then I realised that I have only two professionally taken pictures of the three of us together – a family portrait taken when I was about 10, and a picture in my wedding album. In fact there are only two other pictures of us together, taken using the self timer on the camera! I really do wish I had got a family portrait done, especially when we found out my Mum was terminally ill. My memories of my Parents will never diminish, sometimes it seems like only yesterday when I last saw either of them, but I regret not having more pictures of us together, as a family.

Stars Go Blue – Photoshoot

So, here is the follow up shoot with Stars Go Blue…and it’s a completely different look from the last time! This shoot was all about moody lighting, and bringing out the sexy side of Miss SGB. Pose one is the classic inspired by the famous Christine Keeler/Lewis Morley shot from 1963, with pose two also appearing on the contact sheet. Finlay

I had a some spare studio time before my main shoot on Sunday 15th, just enough time to get some moody low key shots of Finlay. Finlay has a hectic lifestyle generally only having two speeds – full-on and sleeping – so getting him to sit for these pictures was a major challenge. Thankfully he is easy to bribe with biscuits and his favourite ball, and managed to stay still for a whole 30 seconds at one point! I was very happy with how the session turned out, as was owner Fiona.

Teri – photoshoot

Teri is a model with First Step Models, and came along to a photoshoot I organised with other models and photographers – a networking and test shoot day. As you can see we managed to get images shot both in the studio and outside, and we finished up with Teri modelling a couple of printed t-shirts by renowned artist Nicolas Hunziker. Thanks to my photo buddy Duncan Bennett for providing transport for Teri, and Emma who also came along.

Birthday Family Portrait

This studio portrait session was booked as a present by Karen for her Mum’s birthday, and included all the current clan at that time. Which is to say that Donna & J-P now have a gorgeous daughter in Holly, wee sister to Ryan. Speaking of Ryan, he pretty much took centre stage, not particulalry caring that this wasn’t his birthday treat. We did get some cracking shots of him, and Mum & Dad ordered a framed tryptich of 8×10 prints.

First post for 2012 – Stars Go Blue

A photo shoot from late last year with the lovely Stars Go Blue, who I have photographed previously and always enjoy working with. We started off with some studio work, then moved outside for some location shots.

Last post for 2011

Nipping this one in before 2012 gets underway! Some portraits taken during a workshop, where the “models” were families that the instructor had previously had as customers. Very much a controlled environment, where it was difficult to get anything individual, but by introducing a couple of props I know I got a bit more out of that otherwise would have been the case. That sofa weighed a bit though! The wee chap with the money was a play on his refusal to go on set – the workshop leader promised him £5 if he would pose. He was happy to take the money, but less enthusiastic about getting his picture taken…eventually he was coaxed into doing something a bit fun, and he was fine after that for the other delegates.

Hello world!

It’s been a while, but finally I have a new website and blog for the world to see! It will go through an evolution period over the coming weeks, but essentially this is it.

I will be posting images from previous photo shoots, plus of course new content as we go forward through 2012 and beyond.
